You entered one of your favorites into last year’s Jubilee. Can you enter it again in this year’s Jubilee? Yes you can! And why would you do that?
Sometimes, the judges may think a wine is well-structured but could benefit from more time (might use the term “tight”) and gives the wine a Silver award. They may suggest bringing the wine back into competition a year or two later. This means that they see favorable benefits to ageing the wine, and often the second time around can earn the wine a higher award.
Or, you may choose to reenter a wine the following year because the first one entered was corked or flawed in some way (that one bottle!). Some winemakers uncork their entries for a quality control sniff and quickly recork to help manage oxygen exposure.
What is not permitted at the Jubilee are double entries – entering the same exact wine (varietal / blend; vintage) under different identities. When discovered, the duplicate wines are disqualified from competition.
So, if you’re sipping in your cellar, and last year’s entry is tasting even better, think about throwing it into the race again. It just might take Best of Show!
