So… you’re looking around your cellar and you see that you’ve got a little of a wine that you may have used for topping. Then there’s a couple of wines that left over from bottling, some maybe from previous vintages. You sample the wines and they still taste pretty darn good. Then you blend the wines – affectionately known by some as BOBs (Bottom of the Barrel) – and they taste even better together.

BOBs are prime candidates for entering into the Jubilee. Why? You get a chance to craft your Special Cuvee, clear out your cellar, and earn some bragging rights. It’s fun to see what the judges’ reactions will be – you may be pleasantly surprised!

In SHW’s Jubilee Wine Competition, when a wine is made from with a minimum of 75% of a varietal it qualifies for that varietal classification. For example, a wine is considered a Zinfandel Division 2, Classification 206 if it has at least 75% zinfandel in it.

If a wine has less than 75% of a varietal, it is considered a blend and can be entered as such depending on the varietals in the wine. Often BOBs fall into the “blend” classifications.

BOBs can end up being the showiest wines from your cellar so don’t hesitate to enter your BOBs in the Jubilee.
