Wanting to make a port-style fortified wine this harvest?

Thad Rodgers is coordinating a Club group buy of Portuguese varietal grapes typically used to make port-style fortified wines – Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), Souzao, Tinta Amarela, Tinta Cao – from St. Jorge Winery in Acampo.

The five varieties are anticipated to be harvested at three different times (the varieties hit the sweet spot at their own pace). Price per pound varies with two options:

Option 1: price per pound is 75 cents: you pick, but you must schedule pick before the winery crew picks; you transport and crush (weekend dates for picking can be arranged); or

Option 2: price per pound is $1: winery crew picks, Thad transports grapes from Acampo to his Auburn cellar, you show up prepared to help with the group crush, and then transport your must to your cellar. Note that winery crews almost always pick on weekdays so plan for flexibility.

Club members Thad and Heather Rodgers continue to capture top awards for their port-style wines. If the response to this group buy is robust, Thad offers to the group a port-style wine making workshop which can include a port cellar tasting at St. Jorge, a grape neutral spirit (GNS) resource, and how Pearson’s Square will be your new best friend.

If interested, please contact Thad at 916 715-3688 or thadrodgers1@gmail.com as soon as possible. Harvest is almost here!
