SHW’s June 18 meeting’s guest evaluator is winemaking Chik Brenneman. Chik offers his encouraging assessment on Club members’ wines he’ll be evaluating. Chik is the winemaker and co-owner of Baker Family Wines in West Sacramento, and former Winemaker at UC Davis.
If you would like your 2024 red non-Bordeaux wine evaluated by Chik:
- complete the Wine Evaluation Form and email to VP Byron Froman at befroman@gmail.com NLT than June 15;
- bottle the equivalent of two 750 ml samples identified with your name and variety / blend.. If preparing bottles close to the meeting, don’t add sulfites to your samples. No capsules or wax, please, and
- check in with the cellarmaster (near the bar) prior to the meeting. Come prepared to share your wine’s life history. The info from your Wine Evaluation Form (see first bullet) will be displayed on the screen as you talk.
What’s a red non-Bordeaux wine? It’s wine made from any red grape that is not grown / recognized in France’s Bordeaux region. Red Bordeaux grapes include Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Touriga.
The meeting starts at 7 pm upstairs at the Turn Verein meeting hall located at 3349 J Street. Front doors open at 6:30 pm. Bring 2 glasses for your use during the meeting.
