Zinfandel – The Varietal, History, and Interpretations
SHW’s July 16 meeting’s guest speaker is Mike Dunne, noted wine judge and wine writer. Mike will present on the history of Zinfandel wine in California and guide us through a sensory sampling of 4-5 distinctive interpretations in selected commercial wine, from concentrated, high alcohol wines, to subtle, lighter variations, to white zinfandel, and perhaps even a port.
The Tasting Table and the Sentia wine analysis stations will be set up for this meeting so if you have questions about a developing wine, please bring a small sample and visit those stations prior to the program. Members only.
- Tasting Table – get one of your wines anonymously evaluated by meeting attendees. Bring at least 375 ml and label your bottle with variety and vintage; no name. Check in with Sue Nemeth at the Tasting Table. Before and after the meeting, attendees will taste and note written comments. When you are ready to leave the meeting, remember to pick up your wine bottle and the written comments.
- Sentia Testing – using the Sentia wine analyzer, get your wine tested for malic acid (ML conversion) and free SO2 for a nominal cost.
The meeting starts at 7pm upstairs at the Turn Verein meeting hall located at 3349 J Street in Sacramento. Front doors open at 6:30 pm; come early for best parking. Bring 2 wine glasses for your use during the meeting. Your help in setting up and cleaning up is appreciated. Enjoy alcohol responsibly and please ask a fellow member if you need assistance.
