Shake Ridge Vineyards is situated in the Sierra Foothills, five miles east of the charming town of Sutter Creek. Since 2005, we have been the source of fruit to 40 different boutique wineries, including Turley, Tablas Creek, Tribute to Grace, Bedrock among many others, providing excellent quality grapes with character, color and concentration.
Shake Ridge grapes are tended with constant attention, yet minimal and judicious intervention. The vines are given limited inputs but are not asked to carry more crop than they can handle, encouraging strong, healthy plants, that produce wines of the highest quality.
The entire ranch is farmed organically – using just enough organic fertilizer and compost to support natural growth; utilizing cover crops for both nutrition and erosion control, attacking pests with natural predators and netting before harvest to prevent birds from making a feast of the delectable grapes.
For the 2024 season, we have the following available to home winemakers:
- Mourvedre – clone 369 on 110R rootstock. Harvest range – early to late October.
- Grenache – clones 513 and 515, on St. George or 110R. Early to late September.
- Syrah – clone 525 on 101-14. Mid September to early October.
- Barbera – Italian clones 171 and 84 on 110R. Mid September to early October
- Malbec – field selection on 110R. Mid to late September.
- Tempranillo – Duero field selection on 420A. Late September to mid October.
- Zinfandel – Ridge field selections “Pichetti” and “Mendocino” on 110R. Late September to mid October.
Harvest date will reflect style of wine that the buyer requests. Fruit will be harvested at night by the vineyard crew and ready for pickup at 9am. Fruit will be harvested into buyer’s macrobins, delivered by buyer to ranch before harvest, or into Shake Ridge bins and then transferred to buyer’s containers by buyer when picking up fruit.
Price per pound is $1.60 for Zinfandel and Tempranillo, and all others are $1.80 a pound for lots over 800#. Minimum lot size is 500# and price per pound for 500-800#, is $2.00/lb for all varieties.
