January 21’s meeting features guest speaker Mike Dunne, seasoned wine judge for both commercial and home wines. Mike provides insights into the process that he and many wine judges use to evaluate wines. He’ll cover the importance of color, clarity, aroma, taste, balance and finish. We will be tasting with Mike so bring 2 wine glasses for your use.

Tasting Table is back at the January meeting. What is this? The purpose is two-fold: 1) members receive feedback on their wine; and 2) tasters gain experience evaluating wines by jotting down what they see, smell and taste. And, it’s all anonymous. Here’s how it works:

  • Bring a sample of your wine (375-750 ml) identified only with vintage and variety / blend. Don’t ID with your name. Find Sue Nemeth at the Tasting Table (located to your left as you enter the meeting room) before dropping off your wine.
  • Before and after the meeting, meeting attendees are encouraged to sample your wine and then anonymously write brief reactions. Tasters can taste as many samples as they like.
  • As you leave the meeting, pick up your wine sample and evaluations.

Membership dues are due. If you haven’t yet renewed, you can do so on-line, in person at a meeting, or mail via USPS. Details here.

Wine analysis services for Club members are available for pH, titratable acidity, free SO2 , malic acid, and glucose-fructose (residual sugar). Bring your wine samples to SHW monthly meetings. See here for the details. Please ensure your 2026 membership is current.

Meeting starts upstairs at 7 pm at the Turn Verein located at 3349 J Street in Sacramento. Front doors open before 6:30 pm. For meeting details, contact Vice President Donna Bettencourt at donnab1045@gmail.com.
