Did you know that Sacramento Home Winemakers, Inc. is the oldest continuously operating home wine making club west of the Rockies? Yep! Non-stop since 1973, promoting the science and art of home wine making. The first meetings were held in members’ homes.

Now the Club is 145 memberships strong. Most of us live in the greater Sacramento area and because SHW is known for its strong educational program, we attract out-of-area members from Fresno, the Bay area, Chico, Truckee and northern Nevada.

For decades, through community outreach, relationships with UC Davis and industry professionals, and numerous educational opportunities, SHW has encouraged hundreds of home wine makers to make wines and grow vineyards. Some members have even been brave enough to go commercial (more on this in later blog posts). The Club has tapped on some of the best winemaking talent for its meetings and events and as judges for the Jubilee, SHW’s wine competition.

Speaking of wine competitions, did you know that SHW initiated the California State Fair home wine competition and managed the annual event until the early 2000’s?

Yah, SHW’s has been contributing to the fabric of California for the past 50 years! So, let’s celebrate the Club’s accomplishments! We’re assembling a 50-Year Anniversary Committee for the 2023 celebration. We want your ideas, photos, stories (don’t have to be 100% accurate), party and organization skills. Volunteer! Tell us how you can help and be a part of history!
