The Rex Johnston Home Winemaker of the Year is an annual members’ only competition that celebrates the accomplishments of members who have had excellent results in recognized home wine competitions entered each year. Sadly, we had to cancel last year’s competition as there were no opportunities for our members to have their wines judged.
To be eligible to enter the 2021 competition, you must be a member and have entered at least two different wines (i.e. different varietals, different vintage) in the following required competitions in 2021: the Orange County Fair Home Wine Competition, and the SHW Jubilee Competition. You must also have entered one other recognized home wine competition. If you entered several other competitions, choose the competition in which you excelled. The last recognized competition is the Cellarmasters US Amateur Winemaking Competition in Woodland Hills, CA. Entries must be received by November 5, 2021 in Woodland Hills. For more information click HERE.
If you did particularly well, i.e. earned golds and double golds in these competitions why not put your ring in the hat? Points are awarded for Best of’s, Double Golds, Golds, etc. The results are averaged for each competition, and the total score of all three events determine the winner of this competition. For information on the criteria and the entry form for WOY, click HERE. Entry forms must be received by Chief Judge, Donna Bettencourt by November 30, 2021.
The winner and the runners up will be announced at the annual SHW holiday party on December 8th at the Turn Verein.
