SHW’s January 16, 2013 meeting featured Randall Grahm, owner and winemaker for Bonny Doon Vineyard. Randall shared his experiences and viewpoints on winemaking and viticulture including wild/natural yeast fermentations, malo-lactic conversion, making wine in glass carboys, and the practice of irrigating (or not irrigating) vines. He also discussed his theory on “wine that lives on” after the bottle is opened – wines of place vs. wines of effort. Over 114 meeting attendees enjoyed the seven Bonny Doon Vineyard wines Randall brought for tasting. Randall remains an maverick in winemaking!
