January 3 Executive Board meeting. Location: Sacramento. All members welcome.
January 17 – Central / Eastern European Wines. Come with 2 glasses in hand as we learn about some of the oldest winemaking areas in the world. Spend the evening with guest speaker Eric Danch with Blue Danube Wine as he shares winemaking history and the wines that are little known outside of eastern Europe. No charge for SHW members; $10 per person for non-members.

February 21 – 2017 White and Rosé Wines Evaluation. Guest evaluator TBA. Bring in your white and rosé wines from the fall harvest and get them evaluated before you bottle. You’ll receive tips on possible adjustments that can make your good wine into one they won’t forget.
March 7 – Executive Board meeting. Location: Sacramento. All members welcome.
March 21 – Round Table Red Wine Evaluation. Bring a bottle of red wine (at least 375 ml), yours or commercial, and let’s taste talk about it in a round table format. We’ll be using wine judging sheets to help get us going.
April 18 – Corks and Closures. Guest speaker: Phil Durrett, ACIC Corks and Closures. Learn about how corks are made and the the latest developments in closures to protect your wines.
April 28 – UC Davis Winery Tour, Picnic and Wine Tasting. Starting at 10:30, tour UC Davis’ Department of Viticulture and Enology wine making facilities, then take a short jaunt to the Davis winery of Marcus and Jenny Meadows-Smith where we’ll enjoy lunch and taste wines from Berryessa Gap. Details to follow.
May 16 – Fermentation Whisperer. Guest Speaker: Shea Comfort. Don’t miss this opportunity to get all of your fermentation questions answered. Fermentatioa guy extraordinaire Shea Comfort is shares his expansive knowledge on wine making and will be on hand to answer other wine making questions.
June 9-10 – Jubilee! Enter your best into the Club-exclusive wine competition. Wine judging is on Saturday, June 9 with awards ceremony and picnic on Sunday, June 10. Wine entry details can be found here. Picnic registration form is here.
June 20 – Red Non-Bordeaux Varietals Wine Evaluation. Guest evaluator: John Troiano, winemaker for Wreckless Blenders. Bring your 2017 red non-Bordeaux varieties for evaluation.
June 30 – Fruit Wine Making Workshop. Learn to make wine from fruit (other than grapes) and veggies. Members only. In Loomis. Details here.
July 18 – Sustainable Vineyards. Guest speaker: Joaquin Fraga. Learn about sustainable vineyard practices.

August 15 – Native and Ambient Fermentation. Guest Speaker: Ryan Sherman, Winemaker, Fields Family Wines. Come hear about Ryan’s experiences making wines with or without lab-created critters.
September 19 – Top Winners. SHW members whose wines have earned gold and higher honors in this year’s competitions bring their winners for tasting and share their techniques and tips for crafting the best.

January 16, 2019 – Austrian Wines. Guest speaker: Scott Harvey. Scott Harvey spent time in Austria and Europe learning to make wines with central Europe’s unique grapes varieties and terroir. Bring two wine glasses for tasting. Non-members: $15.
