Many SHW members have purchased grapes from the Clos du Lac (CDL) Community Vineyard in Loomis. CDL invites SHW members and previous CDL grape buyers to compete in their 2019 Home Wine Making Competition. Competing wines don’t need to be made from CDL grapes but preferred. The best wine wins 200 lbs of CDL cabernet franc grapes!

The June 19 meeting SHW meeting is on barrel care and use. The evening’s guest speaker is Guillaume Maugeaus, winemaker at Mellowood Vineyard and Winery in Fair Play (El Dorado County). Meeting starts at 7pm upstairs at the Turn Verein. Bring your glass and a bottle of wine to share.
If you ordered a crush T-shirt, Treasurer Bob Peake will be delivering them at the June 19 meeting.
Chief Judge Donna Bettencourt will also have the Jubilee’s judging sheets at the meeting.
Jubilee ribbons are planned to arrive in time at the July 17 meeting. If you are interested in ordering additional Jubilee ribbons. June 19 is the last day to do so. Please contact Gin Yang at this meeting.

Jack Reitan’s 15-year old vineyard located south of Davis in Solano County is organically-farmed. He has Zinfandel and Syrah for sale.
Zinfandel clones: Dupratt from Mendicino, Wine Creek from Santa Barbara, and Primitivo from Eastern Europe.
Syrah clones: 383, 174, and 470.
$1,200 ton or $1 lb. Minimum 200 lbs. Harvest anticipated early September.

Kurtis Birch is the new owner of Bennett Ridge Vineyard previously owned by Bob Bennett and has grapes for sale:
Cabernet Sauvignon $1.35 lb.
Merlot $1.10 lb.
Sangiovese $1.3 lb.
250 lbs minimum. $50 deposit to reserve order. Customers are expected to be able to pick the grapes themselves but we have the picking materials on site they just need something to transport them home in. Harvest is typically in mid-September.
The vineyard was planted in 1995 and wines made from the grapes continue to wine numerous awards. The former website www.bennettridge.com can be viewed to see more information. Kurtis is still in process of transitioning to a new website with the Sunset Ridge name.

Forty-five winemakers entered 140 wines in five divisions earning 17 double-golds, 20 golds, 61 silvers, 24 bronzes, 14 honorable mentions, and 4 no awards (12%, 14%, 44% 17%, 10%, and 3%, respectively). Seventeen wines received best of class awards.
