Scott Harvey is selling Syrah, Barbera, and Zinfandel grape must at $1 per lb. (stems usually comprise 7-12% of picked grapes by weight).
When the grapes are ready Scott will contact you and you just roll up with your vessels to his winery in Amador and they will pump your must into your vessels.

RESERVE NOW : 2017 Jubilee Picnic is Coming Up!!
The Judging will be May 20, 2017, so the Jubilee Picnic will be Sunday May 21, 2017 …Mark your calendars. The location will be Judy Pinegar’s Back Yard and Barn as in past years. The actual picnic/BBQ will begin at 12 AM with the main course planned for about 1:30 PM.
Please!! Lend a hand with set up or clean up… call Judy at 916-224-6742.
The club will provide BBQ meat, Chili Beans, French bread, and lots of water. All wines from the competition will be available for tasting, including the Golds and Best of Shows. Last year there was over 130 bottles!
Please bring a dish to share at the potluck: appetizer, salad, entree, or dessert according to the following list based of your last name (first initial): A – G = Salads or Sides (please large dishes – note no chili beans!); H –O = Appetizers; and P– Y = Desserts. I try to switch this around every year to keep it even!
Remember to bring your wine glasses.
For those of you who are new to the event, Judy’s place has 2 ½ acres with room to explore nature in the summer. Some of Judy’s lawn chairs are available, but club members should bring their own lawn chairs, blankets, or whatever if they want to be sure to have a place to sit on the lawn under the trees. The swimming pool also will be open, so bring your suit, hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses (if it is warm enough!) in May maybe not so much, but even if it Rains, the barn will be open. We will have pop-up tents around and there is an upstairs to the barn also (billiards anyone?)!. The event is great fun, lawn games will be available, and the party sometimes goes until dark… so plan on making a day of it! Children, pets and guests are welcome!

SACRAMENTO HOME WINEMAKERS JUBILEE wine competition is inviting entries through Wednesday, April 19, 2017. For your convenience, bring your entries with completed paperwork and fees to that evening’s meeting. VP Henry Wilkinson will be accepting your entries in the back parking lot before the meeting. The El Dorado Home Winemakers Association in conjunction with the EL DORADO COUNTY FAIR is calling for entries for their HOMEMADE WINE AND LABEL competitions. Wine entries are accepted through May 2, 2017 and wine label entries are accepted through May 24, 2017. Also for your convenience, this competition’s entries will also be accepted at SHW’s April 19 meeting. Check out this link for the specifics.
The OC FAIR HOME WINE COMPETITION is calling for entries. The deadline is May 22, 2017. There’s also a wine label competition. Here’s the link to more information.

SACRAMENTO HOME WINEMAKERS CLUB LAKE COUNTY WINE TOUR AND LAKE SIDE WINE & DINNER PARTY at the home of SHW member David Hicks

SHW members and guests are invited to attend my fourth annual wine tour and catered wine dinner which will be held at my home in Buckingham Park on the shore of Clear Lake in Lake County Ca. These events are my effort to showcase Lake County wineries and their wines to folks from other wine areas. It will require a two night weekend stay and require attendees to arrive in Lake County on Friday afternoon/evening June 16. Most attendees stay at the Tallman Hotel in Upper Lake, or near by hostelries. I will provide directions to Upper Lake in subsequent emails. [for those interested please ask me for the names of other nearby hotels]
Our tour bus departure and arrival will be at the Tallman Hotel. Upper Lake has a lovely wine studio across the street from the Tallman for those interested in sampling Lake County wines on Friday night. The hotel dining room and bar has a selection also. For those planning on attending PLEASE reserve your room at the Tallman NOW, they only have 17 rooms and sell out quickly in the Spring. I strongly suggest you make dinner reservation for Friday night at the same time.
On Saturday morning we depart the Tallman Hotel at 10:30 AM in a Black Tie 24 passenger van and drive to our first winery stop in Lakeport Ca. Our second stop will be at a lovely hillside winery where there will be a catered box lunch. These first two wineries are small owner operated wineries where you will be able to meet and discuss winemaking with the owners. After lunch we will drive to the East end of the lake and visit a lovely and much larger winery with some of the most beautiful wine caves in California. [Details on menus and wineries to follow]
After the tour the van will return you to the Tallman to freshen up for an hour or so. Weather is changeable at this time of year so I recommend you bring warmer jackets and such for the evening. The van well then chauffer you to my home for a lovely lakeside wine tasting, followed by dinner. Depending on the temperature that day for those with an adventurous sporting bent feel free to bring swimming apparel. I have a large dock and the lake is lovely for swimming. I have towels and changing rooms by the lake.
Costs: I charter the van and retain the caterer and pass that cost directly to attendees on a per person basis. Once I have a head count I will be able to determine the amount. Once I contract with those providers I am obligated to pay them in full. I will require a deposit by check of 50% of the TBD cost in early March and final payment in full by April 20, 2017. Your deposit would only be refundable if you cannot attend and either you or I can refill your spot.
Costs you cover: Your transportation to Lake County, your stay in the hotel, your meals and wines other than the lunch and dinner I provide on Saturday. And of course any other assorted amusements you and your SHW friends care to indulge in?
Comment regarding wine: We taste each others wines regularly at our events. This weekend is especially designed for you to learn about and experience Lake County wines. I will be providing an array of wines from our local wineries for you to taste as part of the late afternoon wine tasting hour and our dinner. Therefor I request that you not bring any of your or wines?

I will take your name and contact info and in early March I will send all who contacted me a request to issue me a 50% deposit check and mail it to me right away. Deposits will be logged in on a first received, first reserved bases. When I last did this event, several folks got left out by not reacting quickly. Hey!!! The results are out for this year’s California State Fair Home Wine competition. SHW members did pretty good! Here’s a few highlights:

Best of Class – Rex Johnston (two Best of Class awards), Sue Summersett, Neal Shleffar, Rob & Ester Pock, Alan Piccardo, Mike & Chris Anderson, and Tom Montgomery.
