Don’t forget to make your reservations for SHW’s December 13 Holiday Party. This year’s soiree is at Old Sacramento’s Embassy Suites. We’re up on the Terrace. Your party reservation comes with complimentary valet parking so all you have to do is zip in and unload at the Embassy’s front door.
Join the party, use this reservation form, choose your entrée, and send it in by December 2.
The Embassy is offering a special room rate for the night of the party with complimentary overnight valet parking for $129 plus taxes and fees. Reservations must be made by Monday, November 30. Donations for the silent auction are heating up –
- JD and Erin Phelps are donating a Spanish cooking class for 8 (bid by 2’s) with paella, sangria, Iberian varietal wines (sounds like a party!).
- Jacque and Craig Brown are offering 2 nights at their South Lake Tahoe cabin on the lake with private beach access, hot tub, Wi-Fi … but you’ll want to forget to recharge your electronics.
- We hear talk of a bottling party (guests get to take home some really good wine!), gift baskets, holiday cookies, and wines.

Bob Peak, partner with Santa Rosa’s The Beverage People and a guest speaker at SHW’s meetings, writes “Bob’s World of Wine,” a wine-related blog published on WineMaker magazine’s web site. His latest blog post talks about the small acreage of Portuguese varietals planted in California.
Bob was delighted to discover that SHW members Carol Clark and Sonia Baron pursued their dream and recently purchased a vineyard in Fair Play (El Dorado County) and have named their new reality Bom Vinho! At SHW’s recent Harvest Dinner, Sonia excitedly conversed with Bob about the Portuguese varietals that are growing on Bom Vinho! and also about Shaker Ridge Vineyard’s Portuguese varietals (owners Andy and Elizabeth Standeven are also SHW members).

Former SHW member Cedar Creek Ranch and Vineyards is partnering with Taste Restaurant in Plymouth this Sunday, November 22, featuring a Winter Wine Luncheon. The 12:30pm seating is full. The second seating at 4:00pm has seats available. Please see the menu and wine pairings below.
SHW’s November 18 meeting is hopping!
Vote for your leaders. SHW’s Annual Meeting is in November. This is when you elect the incoming year’s leadership team – president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, membership chair, and 3 members-at-large. Show up to the meeting or someone might throw your name in the ring and because you have a wide fan base, you just might get the necessary votes! Nominees for these positions thus far are listed in the November Grapevine.
Sunshine your sweets, bubblies, and fortifieds. Kurt Burris, winemaker and sales guy (including Camino’s Madroña Vineyards) is planning to taste and evaluate your port, fruit, dessert, and sparkling wines. Please bring two 75o ml bottles for all to taste.
Share your best. If your wine(s) earned gold, double gold or “best of …” this year and you still have some left, please bring two 750 ml bottles to the meeting for tasting. Continue to be recognized for your outstanding winemaking abilities!
See how you stack up. If you were a part of the 2014 primitivo or/and petite sirah varietal focus groups, please bring two 750 ml bottles for tasting. You’ll be amazed how the same grapes harvested at same time but vinified by various winemakers can taste so different!
