I am interested in purchasing used stainless steel, variable capacity, tanks in 100 liter to 200 liter sizes. I’m planning on making various sized batches of Chardonnay and Syrah rose’ this fall. If you have any tanks available, please contact me with a description, condition and price. Thanks.
As noted on the SHW website, the club has several pieces of equipment to rent to club members at minimal rates. See: http://www.sachomewine.com/member-services/winemaking-equipment-loan-program/
Recently the Crusher-Destemmer moved to a new location in Sacramento. The contact information is as follows:

Our hearts are saddened with the loss of SHW member Tony Oppedahl on January 30, 2015. Tony arrived early to many SHW meetings and greeted members while helping the crew set up for the evening. Around the table, he poured his award-winning wines (his Touriga took a gold at the 2014 Amador – SHW Shootout) which were adorned with his creative labels that most recently earned double-golds at the 2014 California State Fair. Tami Oppedahl shares with all winemakers: Celebration of Life event for Tony, Saturday, February 21, 1-5pm, at the clubhouse at Swallows Nest Country Club.

reWine Barrels will be demonstrating barrel toasting, maintenance and leaky fixes on Saturday, March 21 at the home winery of SHW members Carol Clark and Sonia Baron. Details on that event are in the February 2015 The Grapevine newsletter.
reWine has also extended their 15% trade show pricing on their barrels until March 1 to SHW members. With the discount, 60-gallon barrels are $297 and 30-gallon conversion barrels are $322. Barrels are medium toast unless specified.
Place your order via email to Sonia (email address above) by March 1. There is no delivery charge; the barrels are to be paid for and picked up on March 21 at the demonstration. Bring cash. If paying with a credit card, 2.75% will be added to the cost. Thanks for honoring your commitment.
Member Mike Anderson opens his charming Land Park home for SHW’s executive board meetings almost annually. In addition to making wine and limoncello (his Creamy Limoncello is soooo smooth! That recipe’s coming soon.), Mike makes a killer chili that is enjoyed by meeting attendees.
And he’s sharing his delicious chili recipe. Mike says he’s developed the concoction over the years, adding some unexpected ingredients to create a chili bean dish that’s full of flavor and depth. Be forewarned, Mike Anderson’s Chili results in a HUGE pot of chili beans, enough to feed half a neighborhood!

Maintaining adequate levels of SO2 is important in your wines but do you how much of the SO2 is free and not bound? Do you wonder if the wine’s malo-lactic conversion has been completed?
Get your wines tested!
Beginning with the February 2015 meeting, SHW will offer wine analyses of your wines for pH, TA, pH+TA, free SO2, malic acid to show completion of MLF, and residual sugar (RS). The small fee charged for each test reimburses the Club for the equipment and supplies.
2015 VP Bruce Currie is a professional wine chemist and will perform the tests using instrument. The process is simple: bring your wine samples, form and fee to the next SHW meeting. Bruce will convey the test results via email. The form and details can be found on the Club’s website, www.sachomewine.com, Member Resources, Wine Analysis Service, or click here.

SHW Member Brad Sanborn helped the owner of a small urban vineyard manage and harvest her zinfandel vineyard in 2014. Brad is not able to manage the vineyard this year and is helping the owner find someone who would be willing to do so. Please contact Brad if you are interested. The vineyard can yield up to 75 gallons of wine.
The original request for help came from the owner last year:
“I have a small vineyard located in Sierra Oaks Vista. 2800 Northrop. There are 70 zinfandel vines that are approximately 8 years old. The previous people who have made wine from these vines have had to retire, so I am looking for someone to come in and take over. I am not charging money. I would expect the vines to be cared for and also I would like to receive at least two cases of wine at the appropriate time. Of course since we live nearby, we would be available to help.
I hope someone can take advantage of this lovely vineyard. It is gorgeous and a wonderful place to work.”
