I have 170 cases of Antique green Cabernet style screw top.
60 cases of Antique green Pinot Noir style with screw top.
60 cases of antique green Pinot Noir style with cork closure.
5 cases of Antique green cabernet style with cork closure.
I am finding the proper top, supplier, and cost of the screw caps for those bottles now.
They can be done by hand much easier than a cork as well. So If I find out the screw caps cost more than corks I will probably lower the price of the 170 cases to offset that.
A comment at our SHW website comes from web reader Kathy Whitebeck says:
I was hoping to get in touch about the Sacramento Home Winemakers wine links page. I stumbled across it a while ago and have definitely viewed and probably even ordered from some of those supply stores.
I’m a retired teacher and have been dabbling in home winemaking for several years now. You resource guide has been valuable over the years, especially when I was first starting out and learning the ropes. 🙂
Not sure if you’re still keeping the page updated but I thought I’d suggest another resource for your list. I’ve recently ordered some wine labels from iCustomLabel.com, which had great service and selection. It also helped that they’re willing to mock up custom designs free of charge, which I can now use when gifting my wine to friends and family. Figured, it may make a nice addition to the site.
Let me know what you think and thanks again for the resource listing, it’s definitely been a nice reference.
I thanked her for her comment (invited her to join) and added her info on labels to the website at “Member Resources”… “Wine Links”!
So you members might want to look too… sometimes… the answer to your wine questions… are only a click away at www.sachomewine.com or www.sachomewine.org. Or if it is not there, “Ask a Question” or “Comment to a web page/article?
Like your club meetings, use the SHW website to learn about the club and the wine making process, especial at the basic level. Or read the newsletter, the latest blog, update your daily calendar or make that final purchase of grapes for this season. And if something needs to be corrected or be added, write me at email@example.com.
OH, OH, but PLEASE don’t write to me or “Comment” to the webpage… if you want to buy someone else’s grapes, or equipment for sale or whatever …write or call the to the SELLER!

Sacramento Home Winemakers has been invited to participate in the UC Davis 3rd Annual Wine Tasting Event on October 11, 2014. The event precedes that evening’s football game between UC Davis and Montana State.
Twenty-five commercial wineries will be pouring at the event and the Robert Mondavi Institute plans to offer the campus’ olive oil and honey for sampling. SHW will provide a sensory experience using the smelling jars from this summer’s California State Fair home winemaking booth.
SHW would also like to showcase wines made by members of SHW. If you have wine that has earned a gold or silver medal, we’d love to pour it at the event. Please write your name, vintage, varietal/blend and AVA on the bottle and bring it to next Wednesday’s (September 17) SHW meeting. We’re looking for a total of 8 different bottles to pour at the October 11 event.
Thanks for your donation!
We might be skipping ahead a little but we wanted to get on your calendar especially for Wednesday, November 19.
That’s the evening of SHW’s last monthly meeting for 2014 and we have much to share with you. (No technical meeting in December – we’re partying on December 14 instead!)
- Election of 2015 SHW officers – you’ll help decide the Club’s leadership team for next year. Interested in running for office? Click on the newsletter link below for more info.
- Evaluation of members’ sparkling, fruit, dessert and port wines – bring in your bubblies, sweets and fortifieds for evaluation. Evaluator TBA.
- Travelogue – Barbara Bentley and Rex Johnston have stories, pictures and wines to share from their recent South Africa trip. Come prepared to enjoy the sights of South Africa, Botswana, and Zimbabwe and enjoy the wines they found for us in the wine regions near Cape Town. Don’t miss this unique presentation and tasting!
Working backwards, the October 16 meeting features Dr. Hildegard Heymann, distinguished professor with UC Davis, Department of Viticulture and Enology. Dr. Heymann will lead a discussion on wine sensory analysis.
The September 17 meeting is the tasting of gold medal winners (your wines that earned gold in 2014 wine competitions) and wines from the 2013 varietal focus groups.
Detailed information on these and remaining 2014 SHW events, including the Holiday Party, can be found in the September 2014 newsletter.

Call Paul at 916-425-4763 best or vineyard 916-684-2086.
Members Paul and Nancy Baldwin still have grapes for sale which are ready now. Fruit is exceptionally nice this year, easy to pick due to uniform leaf pulling, very clean and near perfect. Cab is 24 brix, Zin 22, Barbera 26 and Merlot 25. No minimum, free use of crusher-destemmer, picking boxes and clippers with our help and we handle the mess. 50 cents per pound u-pick. We love to help new winemakers get started. Weekly sugars & history available at our web site pandnenterprises.net.
Here’s the latest SHW newsletter, The Grapevine Sept 2014.
The September 17 is the tasting of members’ wines that have earned gold in 2014 wine competitions. Additionally, 2013 varietal focus groups will have a chance to strut their stuff and talk about their winemaking techniques. So, punch down early and come prepared to taste with wine glass in hand and mingle with fellow winemakers.
If you are planning to bring wines for tasting that evening, please contact Co-Vice Presidents J.D. Phelps and Sonia Baron to help them plan. Contact J.D. at firstname.lastname@example.org and 916 295-9121 and Sonia Baron at email@example.com and 916 825-4952.
