Club Equipment Training and Certification – August 3, 2013

SHW members enjoy the benefit of borrowing the Club’s equipment – destemmer-crusher, basket press and filter – at a nominal cost.  Before doing so, members are to be trained in the use, cleaning, and care of the equipment, and also sign acertification (certification form can be found at

In Search of: People to Enter in Yolo County Fair Wine Competition

Home Wine Maker Entries Sought for 2013 Yolo County Fair
The organizers of the 12thAnnual Yolo County Fair Amateur Winemaker competition is seeking entries for the August 14-18 event.
Entry forms and wine entries are due to the Fair offices at 1125 East Street in Woodland by 5:00 p.m. Friday, August 9.Entry forms can be found on the Fair’s website, www.yolocountyfair.netor by calling the Fair office at (530) 402-2222.
Each entry must include two bottles of the varietal entered, with varietal type and entrants name clearly marked.Judging will take place August 14.
Winemakers can enter wines in the following categories:
Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Other White, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Other Red.

Grapes for Sale – Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot – Suisun

25 tons Cabernet Sauvignon and 10 tons Merlot grapes for sale.  14-year old vines located in Suisun. Cab sauv $2,200 ton; Merlot $1,600 ton.  1 ton minimum purchase.  Seller picks.  No crusher available.

Grower is also home winemaker and is 32 for 36 in medal counts.  Most recently entered 6 various bottles to Orange County’s competiton and received 2 bronzes, 1 silver, 2 golds and 1 double-gold – 6 for 6!  Grower grew up in St. Helena and maintains vineyard yields to Napa Valley standards averaging 2 1/2-3 tons per acre. Sells to Cain, Kendall-Jackson, Martini, Gallo Sonoma, and York Creek.

Grapes for Sale – Petite Sirah, Syrah (Noir clone), Sangiovese – Fair Play AVA

Cedar Creek Ranch Winery has 3-4 tons each of Petite Sirah, Syrah and Sangiovese grapes for sale at $2,800 ton/$1.40 lb plus a picking fee of $70 per 1,000 lbs.  Self-pick or assist pick options available. No crusher is on site; the winery does offer turn key services including bottling. Minimum purchase of 300 lbs.

The vines are 16 years old, always organically grown, ultra-premium estate produced.  Harvest is estimated for mid to late October.

Cedar Creek Ranch Winery’s wines have won awards every year at the Amador County and El Dorado County fairs.  The sryah has won double golds each year and Best of Class.  The Petite Sirah has won golds and was featured in the Mach 2013 issue of Wine Enthusiast. The Sangiovese has consistently won silver awards.

My vineyard is located in Granite Bay, next to Roseville, CA. This year, we have approximately 3 to 4 tons of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and 3 to 4 tons of Merlot grapes for sale. The vines are 10 years old, properly pruned, thinned and well managed. In the past several years, these grapes have produced high-quality wines through several wine-makers including those in the Sacramento Home Winemakers.

No minimum tonnage required. All quantities are self-pick. De-stemmer and crusher are provided at site.
